18th Century Wedding
September 19, 2009 (Sat) - Nassau, NY

Time: Arrive: 12pm
Primarily Perform: 12-4pm
Location: Eastfield Village
We will need at least 4-6 players for an afternoon performance in Eastfield Village, which is about a 45 minute drive from the Town Hall.

Itinerary


Noon-ish: Musicians arrive, and play on the Village Green (weather permitting). In addition to the Volunteers, we’ve also engaged the Liasions Plaisantes to entertain us for the day. We’re hoping that we’ll be able to work out song switch-offs, etc., so it’s not too muddled an experience.

2:30: The LPs move into the church for the ceremony prelude, and the Volunteers go on break for about half an hour, retreating to the opposite side Eastfield and sort of hiding out. The idea is that early guests will think you wrapped it up for the day, and on-time guests won’t know you’re there.

3 pm: The Volunteers begin marching toward the church, pausing en route to pick up the bride and her attendants, and we’ll all process to the ceremony. (It’s not really that far.) Hopefully, everyone will be surprised to hear the fife & drums.

3:30: The ceremony will wrap up, and the VV’s will play a good march (??) immediately after we’re announced as husband and wife, while we leave the ceremony and get settled for the receiving line. Following the receiving line, we’re going to try for a group photo with all the guests. Maybe the VV’s could drum a call to assembly (if that’s the term? I hope you’ll know what I mean.)

4 pm – 5 pm: There will be drinks and nibbles for everyone, and we’ll be taking some photos. All musicians will play, alternating or whatever works best.

5 pm: Another drum call, this time for the toasts.

5:15 – 6:15 BBQ dinner. We aren’t sure whether or not we want anyone to play anything during the meal, but if so, it would probably be the LPs.

6:30 Our first dance, out on the Green if the weather is nice. (Possibly another drum call?)
A few songs follow & possibly one of the ladies in the LPs may call some traditional dances, if it seems like there will be participants.

7:04 (sunset) Cut the cake, and the serious dancing begins with a present-day guitarist/vocalist.

Directions


These are a bit convoluted so you might want to print them out.
You want to take Exit 9 off I-90 for East Greenbush, and turn left at Troy Rd/US-4, so you’re basically heading back toward Troy

Just past the various hotels, turn right at Mannix Rd/Upper Mannix Rd
Continue to follow Upper Mannix Rd
go 1.5m
Turn right at Best Rd/County Rte-55
go 4.6 mi
Continue straight through the intersection, on County Rte-50/Millers Corners Rd
go 2.3 mi
Rt. 50 turns into Rt. 18. Continue straight, on County Rte-18/Hoags Corners Rd – no stop sign for this intersection

Turn right at Old Mill Pond Rd , which is a dirt road
go 0.2 mi
Bear right at the Y intersection ( Mud Pond Rd ) then around the curve to the right, then up the hill to the second Y
roughly 0.2 mi total – it’s sort of a funky zig zag with little triangle intersections
Bear left to stay on Mud Pond Rd (I think the other road is China Hill Road )

Just before the turn for the Village, there is a small sign that says something like Eastfield Village Historic District, on the right. (It is possible it will be obscured by trees, but it is a fairly new sign)
The turn for the Village is on the LEFT. You’ll see a pond and a split rail fence, and a barn on the corner. Turn in, and you can park just before the entrance to the Village – it’s a nice field. You won’t really be able to see the buildings from the road, but they’re back there, and you’ll see them once you get to the parking place.
