Qualifications (Fife/Fife Major): - To qualify for the rank of Fife Major, the Fifer must pass off all songs listed above plus an optional song of their choice (excluding songs already listed in the rank system).
- Songs may be performed with the aid of sheet music.
- Must also write 5 variations of any tune.
- The Fife Major is the highest musical rank in the Corps. Since there is no one higher to pass off a candidate, a panel of the three (3) highest ranking fifers or highest ranking drummers of at least the rank of Sergeant and the Music Master shall judge the candidate's ability and qualifications. Should there not be three judges of Sergeant or above, the Music Master may appoint a qualified fifer or drummer who may not be a Village Volunteers member. A portion of the musical qualifications will be passed off by each of the four panelists, i.e., no one panelist may pass off all of one candidates music.
